We recently enjoyed a quick yet unforgettable 4 days and 3 nights in Dumaguete-complete with a magical day tour in Siquijor. Just a 1.5-hour flight from Manila, Dumaguete is a laid-back city that’s big on charm, rich in culture, and surrounded by natural wonders.
Our teens were especially excited-it was their first time in Dumaguete! From swimming with sea turtles in Apo Island to exploring mystical waterfalls in Siquijor, and indulging in the city’s best local eats, we packed in adventure, relaxation, and family bonding all in one trip. Here’s how we made the most of our stay and how you can plan yours too.
Day 1 – Arrival & Check-In at Hotel Dumaguete
The moment we landed, we went straight to Hotel Dumaguete, our home base for the next four days. The hotel offers free airport transfers, which made arrival stress-free. We booked two cozy rooms-one triple and one double-perfect for our family of five.
Why we loved it:
- Refreshing welcome drinks upon arrival
- Daily set breakfast included
- Access to the swimming pool with free drinks
- Relaxing hotel vibe, perfect for unwinding after travel
While the teens jumped straight into the pool, we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Dinner at the hotel restaurant capped off our first night-simple, quiet, and just what we needed before diving into a packed itinerary.
Day 2 – Apo Island Adventure: Swimming with Sea Turtles
We kicked off Day 2 with a half-day tour to Apo Island, famous for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. The tour package handled everything-hotel pickup, boat transfers, swimming gear, and lunch on the island.
The absolute highlight? Swimming alongside gentle sea turtles. It was a magical, surreal experience that left us in awe. Apo Island truly lives up to its reputation as a bucket-list destination for nature lovers and snorkelers.
Day 3 – Full-Day Tour in Mystical Siquijor
Our alarm rang early for a day trip to Siquijor, an island known for its mystical charm, natural beauty, and rich folklore. The tour included hotel transfers, round-trip ferry tickets, and a multicab to take us around.
Highlights of our Siquijor tour:
- Cambugahay Falls – crystal waters and rope swings
- Old churches and heritage sites
- Caves and cliffs with scenic ocean views
- Healing sites and local legends
Siquijor has an untouched beauty that’s hard to put into words-you just have to experience it. One day wasn’t enough, and we’re already planning a return trip.
Food Trip + Pasalubong at Sans Rival
No Dumaguete trip is complete without a food crawl! We visited Jo’s Chicken Inato and Hawker B’s for lunch & dinner on Day 11. We also had dinner in Bigby’s, Mooon Cafe on Day 3, But our top foodie experience? Street food at Rizal Boulevard-from Dumaguete-style tempura to kwek-kwek and squid balls on Day 2, every bite was a treat.
Before heading to the airport, we made our last stop at Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries. Their Silvannas are a must-buy pasalubong-creamy, crunchy, and available in flavors like chocolate and assorted varieties. Perfect for sharing (or keeping all to yourself).
Final Thoughts
Our 4D3N Dumaguete itinerary was the perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. We swam with sea turtles, chased waterfalls, explored mystical islands, savored local delicacies, and enjoyed quality family time. Dumaguete isn’t just a gateway to nearby islands-it’s a destination worth exploring on its own. Whether you’re a family looking for kid-friendly activities, a couple seeking romantic spots, or a solo traveler chasing new experiences, Dumaguete and Siquijor should be on your travel list.
