We’re diving deep into one of Siquijor’s most iconic natural wonders – the beautiful Cambugahay Falls. If you’re planning a day tour in Siquijor, Cambugahay is an absolute must-visit, and in this blog post, we’re sharing everything about our experience – from lunch recommendations and tips for getting there, to what to expect from the waterfalls, rope swings, bamboo floats, and the much-talked-about Fairy Walk.
A Midday Stop: Lunch at K & S Resto Bar
Before taking on the trek to Cambugahay Falls, we made a smart move – we had lunch first. Just a short walk from the entrance to the falls is K & S Resto Bar, a cozy and convenient spot that’s perfect for recharging before your waterfall adventure.
We ordered their shared meals which turned out to be a great decision. The portions were generous, the food was delicious, and there was more than enough for the whole family. From grilled dishes to Filipino comfort food classics, everything was flavorful and satisfying. If you’re heading to Cambugahay, we highly recommend dropping by this place first – it’s a great way to fuel up before the descent.
The Journey Begins: Down to the Falls
After lunch, we made our way toward the entrance of Cambugahay Falls. The entrance fee was just ₱50 per person, a small price to pay for what’s in store. You’ll also find vendors near the entrance selling drinks and snacks – great if you need water or something sweet.
Then comes the infamous stairway – a long concrete path with steep steps that wind down through lush greenery. While we didn’t count the exact number of steps, let’s just say you’ll feel it in your legs, both going down and especially going back up. Pro tip: wear proper footwear (non-slip sandals or aqua shoes are ideal) and take your time. The good news? Once you start hearing the sound of cascading water, you know you’re close.
First Look at Cambugahay Falls
And finally… Cambugahay Falls. It was as beautiful as we remembered – and for our teens, it was love at first sight. The area was lively, with both locals and tourists enjoying the pools, taking photos, and of course, lining up for the famous rope swing and bamboo rafts.
One thing to know: the lower level of the falls – which is the most accessible and often the most crowded – had slightly cloudy water and a few scattered rocks when we visited. But it’s still a fantastic place to start swimming or grab a quick photo. A local guide offered to take our pictures and videos, and they did such a great job capturing our best angles, especially while on the raft or mid-swing. Definitely a tip-worthy service and super helpful if you want Instagrammable moments.
Exploring the Upper Levels: More Falls, Less Crowds
Cambugahay Falls actually has multiple tiers, each one with its own mini waterfall, natural pool, and fun features like rope swings and bamboo floats. To get to the upper levels, you’ll have to walk a narrow, sometimes slippery path along the water – ropes are installed for safety, so make sure to hold on.
The further up you go, the cleaner and calmer the water gets. We made it all the way to what many call the fourth level, and wow – the water here was crystal clear, cool, and refreshing. There were fewer people, which made the experience more peaceful and intimate. It’s the perfect spot if you just want to float, swim, or relax under the trees without the crowd.
The Fairy Walk: A Touch of Magic
One of the newer attractions at Cambugahay Falls is the Fairy Walk – a suspended rope walk across the water with a harness for safety. It’s been gaining popularity thanks to its magical name and photo-worthy setup. While we were really curious to try it out, the line was quite long and we were short on time, so we decided to watch others instead.
The Fairy Walk costs around ₱100 per person, and that includes a safety harness and guide assistance. If this is on your bucket list, we suggest going early to avoid the queue, especially during weekends or holidays. It’s a unique experience, especially for kids or anyone wanting a bit of light adventure that’s not too extreme.
Final Thoughts: Is Cambugahay Worth Visiting?
Absolutely, YES!
We spent about two hours at Cambugahay Falls, but honestly, it felt like we could’ve stayed the entire day. Between the rope swings, swimming spots, bamboo floats, upper-level pools, and fairy walk – there’s just so much to enjoy here. It’s both fun and relaxing, perfect for families, couples, solo travelers, and even adventure seekers.
A few reminders before you go:
- Bring waterproof bags or dry pouches for your valuables.
- Water shoes will help a lot with slippery rocks.
- Don’t forget sunscreen and extra clothes.
- If you have a drone or waterproof camera, this is the place to use it.
Whether you’re visiting Siquijor for a day or staying longer, make sure Cambugahay Falls is on your itinerary. It’s not just a tourist spot – it’s an experience. And as we always say here at Fun Fam Travels – it’s these little pockets of nature and fun that make the best family memories.
