After visiting Wat Pho, our next stop is Wat Arun Temple. This temple is just close to Wat Pho but you need to go there via ferry boat. It will cost you 5THB for the ferry going to the magnificent Wat Arun temple.
Wat Arun temple is also one of the must-see attractions here in Bangkok, Thailand. Located on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River, this iconic temple is known for its sunning architecture and rich cultural significance.
We are very excited to visit Wat Arun for the first time. They say that this temple is a symbol of Thai architecture. Wat Arun is also known as the Temple of Dawn, it’s a masterpiece of Thai architecture. Its central prang (tower) stands at an impressive height of 79 meters, adorned with intricate designs and colorful porcelain tiles. As the sun sets, the temple is beautifully illuminated, creating a mesmerizing sight.
Off the ferry boat and we were surprised to see lots of tourist dressed in traditional Thai dress. All the while, we thought there’s an event or something – only to find out that these Traditional Thai outfits are being rented. I guess, this is similar to Korea where tourists rented Hanbok while touring the palace. Well, with the IG-worthy view of the structures here – it’s really a great idea to capture all these and have you photo wearing traditional Chut Thai.
As we explore the temple grounds of What Arun, we encountered various other structure, including smaller prangs, pavilions, and statues. We are in awe as we explore Wat Arun and the intricate details of all structures here.
This temple is really a must-see! You need to take our time to appreciate the intricate details and craftsmanship that went into building this sacred place.
If you are still able, don’t miss the opportunity to climb the central prang, which offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. However, be prepared for steep steps and narrow passages.
It will probably take you an hour to explore this magnificent Wat Arun Temple. Don’t forget to bring water to keep you hydrated. If you have kids, I’m sure you’ll it will take you more than an hour because kids might want to cool down and take a break from walking more frequently.
Apart from the magnificent structures here, we also stop by the Sitting Buddha which resides in what they call Ordination Hall. The structure is not as huge as the Wat Pho Reclining Buddha. You need to also take-off your shoes as you enter the hall. Taking photo inside the hall is permitted but please be discreet as there are Buddhist monks praying inside the Ordination Hall.
After the tiring walk, we headed towards the ferry boat again to go back to the other side of the river. There are lots of tourist lined up, make sure you have your tickets with you. If you have other stops accessible via the ferry boat, I suggest you purchase the hop-on hop-off pass which will definitely save you money (rather than buying individual ferry boat tickets)
So if you are vising Bangkok, Thailand – be sure to include Wat Arun Temple in your itinerary. This is must-see especially if you are looking for Instagram worthy area here in Bangkok. This is for the whole family. Good to also explore this temple in traditional Thai outfits to make the tour and experience more memorable!
