Today, we’re revisiting one of Tagaytay’s most iconic tourist spots: Picnic Grove. A timeless favorite among families, barkada, and solo travelers, this nature escape has always offered a breath of fresh air and unforgettable views of Taal Volcano. But this time, we’re here to explore: What’s new at Picnic Grove? Let’s find out!
Getting There
Getting to Picnic Grove is pretty straightforward. We took SLEX and exited at Santa Rosa, then cruised along the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Once you reach Tagaytay-Calamba Road, just turn left and in a few minutes, you’ll see the Picnic Grove entrance on your right.
Upon arrival, staff will give you a small ticket – don’t worry, you’ll only pay when you exit. But here’s a tip: come early, especially on weekends. Parking spaces are limited and it gets crowded fast!
First Impressions: More Shops, Fewer Attractions
The entrance now greets you with a livelier, more commercialized vibe – rows of souvenir stalls, food kiosks, and small shops line the way in. It’s a big change if you’ve been here years ago.
Sadly, some old attractions like the botanical garden, mini zoo, and mini cable car ride are no longer around. But don’t worry – there are plenty of new experiences waiting!
Adventure Time: Zip Line Fun
On the right side of the park, thrill-seekers can try the zip line that stretches across a scenic part of Picnic Grove. For just ₱300, you get to soar with an epic panoramic view of Taal Volcano below you. It’s a short ride, but definitely an adrenaline rush you’ll want to try at least once!
New Eats and Old Favorites
There’s now a new restaurant along the picnic pathway, which adds more convenience for guests who want a proper meal. Whether you’re craving Tagaytay’s famous bulalo or just want to sip coffee while enjoying the cool breeze, there’s now a solid mix of food options inside the park.
And guess what? A Ferris wheel has been added behind the restaurant area! It’s currently under maintenance, but once operational, it’s bound to bring a playful carnival touch to Picnic Grove.
The Classic Picnic Experience
Of course, the heart of Picnic Grove is still its main picnic area. Here, you can rent huts for the day – ₱250 for a small one and ₱400 for a larger hut. These come with tables and benches, ideal for spreading out your baon and relaxing with your group. We got a small hut this time – shaded, cozy, and offering a stunning view of Taal Lake.
And if you’re in the mood for something simple, there’s plenty of open space for kite flying, lounging, or just taking a quiet nap under the trees.
Nature Walk: The Eco Trail
One highlight we always enjoy is the Eco Trail – a roughly 500-meter scenic walkway that lets you reconnect with nature. With fresh air, lush trees, and glimpses of Taal Lake at every turn, this mini hike is great for a peaceful escape.
The path is a mix of uphill and downhill, so make sure to wear comfy shoes. Midway through the trail is the popular 26-meter suspension bridge – a slightly wobbly but totally safe photo spot. Don’t miss the chance to snap a souvenir pic with a breathtaking backdrop!
Horseback Rides and Fun Photo Ops
Near the end of the Eco Trail, you’ll find horses available for photo ops – a fun treat for kids or first-time visitors. You can even go horseback riding along a short trail for just ₱350, guided by a local handler. It’s a charming, uniquely Tagaytay experience you shouldn’t skip!
Entrance Fees and Final Thoughts
Before heading out, don’t forget to stop by the Payment Area to settle your entrance fees:
- ₱75 per person
- ₱50 parking fee (if you brought a vehicle)
Final Verdict
While Picnic Grove has changed over the years — saying goodbye to some old favorites – it’s also evolving with new attractions, better food options, and improved facilities. The zip line, Eco Trail, and expanded food scene make it a fun, affordable, and family-friendly day trip in Tagaytay. So, have you been to Picnic Grove lately? Share your thoughts in the comments!
